The device has a digital-analog converter for converting a digital value into an analog value and outputting the analog value for comparison with an analog input value to a comparator. The comparator provides a result of comparison to a control stage. The control stage restricts the analog-digital conversion for the analog input value on a search interval, which lies over or under the digital value based on the result of the comparator. The control stage determines the search interval as a threshold level is added to the digital value or subtracted from the digital value. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an electronic device.
