The method involves activating measuring tubes (2,3) in a diagnostic mode for testing a Coriolis-mass flow meter (1) which is excited for Coriolis-oscillations. A Coriolis-frequency of the Coriolis oscillations is determined. The current ratio of the measured frequency is determined for the Coriolis-frequency, and is compared with a predetermined reference value. An independent claim is also included for a Coriolis mass flow meter with a checking unit.
