The method involves sucking liquid (8) from a reservoir (10) into a storage container (4), where the liquid is sucked from the container by using a return pipe (12) according to sucking of the liquid from the reservoir into the container. Liquid level-representative variable is measured by a detection unit (24) for indirect detecting of the liquid level within the container. A signal is generated for stopping liquid suction if the measured variable reaches a predetermined limit.
