A flow-through monolith (2), which is arranged downstream of wall-flow filter (1), and wall-flow filter have storage function for same compound selected from sulfur oxide, nitrogen oxide, liquid ammonia, oxygen, hydrocarbon, and hydrogen sulfide present in exhaust gas. The storage capacity in flow-through monolith is designed such that breakthrough signal downstream of flow-through monolith has highest gradient of concentration curve resulting at respective termination criterion taken into consideration for exhaust-gas compound while using as little storage material as possible.
