Safety units (3) are automatically controlled by the control unit and released when the sinking and/or falling of the vehicle under the water surface is detected. The safety units are fastened to an exterior part of the vehicle and designed as inflatable air cushions. The safety units are arranged in a waterproof and/or water-protected manner. The air cushions remain blown up until the vehicle is salvaged from the water.
