The sensor (10) has an evaluation unit (30) for recognizing potential objects (22) detected by the sensor as objects e.g. containers, or parasites, and for following the objects in an exterior monitoring zone. The evaluation unit recognizes the potential objects as the parasites when a position, a value or a direction of speed of the potential objects is incompatible with following of the objects. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring an interior monitoring zone and an exterior monitoring zone using an optoelectronic sensor.
