A method for elementary update of a graph control node of a non-binary LDPC code during a decoding of a block encoded with said code, comprising a reception of a first input message (U) and a second input message (V) each having n doublets having a symbol and an associated metric, a basic updating process delivering an output message (S) having n output pairs, this update processing elementary element comprising developing (401) a matrix (M) of n combined doublets from a combination of the doublets of the two input messages (U, V), and a treatment of reducing the number of doublets combined in a obtaining the n output doublets of the output message (S) having the largest or the smallest n metrics. The elementary updating process includes identifying (401U, 401V) redundant symbols within each input message (U, V) and additional processing (402) including setting to a reference value, the value the metric of each paired doublet resulting from a combination of at least one pair having a redundant symbol spotted.
