Recovering sulfur contained in hydrogen sulfide rich gas comprises dividing gas stream in two streams, sending one of two streams in adsorption unit, sending sulfur dioxide stream to regeneration and sending effluent in catalytic unit
Recovering sulfur contained in a gas rich in hydrogen sulfide (H 2S) comprises: dividing a gas stream to be treated in two streams, one stream (1) corresponding to 1/3 of the main stream and a stream (2) corresponding to 2/3 of the main stream; sending the stream (1) in an adsorption unit (ADS); producing a stream (3) of sulfur dioxide (SO 2) after regeneration of solid adsorbent; sending the produced stream (3) of SO 2to the regeneration by mixing with the stream (2) in a first catalytic Claus unit; sending the non condensed part of the effluent (5) in a second catalytic Claus unit. Process for recovering sulfur contained in a gas rich in hydrogen sulfide (H 2S) comprises: dividing a gas stream to be treated in two streams, one stream (1) corresponding to 1/3 of the main stream and a stream (2) corresponding to 2/3 of the main stream; sending the stream (1) in an adsorption unit (ADS) using a solid adsorbent (MO) operating at a temperature of 150-600[deg] C, where MO reacts with H 2S to form metal sulfide (MS) and water, and the metal oxide MO is zinc oxide, iron oxide of ilmenite type and/or pyrolusite; producing a stream (3) of sulfur dioxide (SO 2) after regeneration of the solid adsorbent in the regeneration unit, where MS reacts with 3/2 oxygen to form MO and sulfur dioxide; sending the produced stream (3) of SO 2to the regeneration by mixing with the stream (2) in a first catalytic Claus unit that generates a first Claus effluent (5) which is sent to a condenser to recover a first portion of sulfur (6); sending the non condensed part of the effluent in a second catalytic Claus unit generating a second Claus effluent that is sent in a condenser for recovering a second part of sulfur, where the total production of sulfur is more than 97% of the sulfur contained in the gas to be treated.
