PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable picture/sound contents to be used in non-encrypted form based on permission information.SOLUTION: In electronic equipment which receives an input digital data stream of picture/sound information digital signal (1), the digital signal may be encrypted before being transmitted, and the input digital data stream includes permission information (2). The electronic equipment includes an extraction unit (405) which extracts permission information from the input digital data stream, a detection unit which checks to see if the input digital signal in the input digital data stream is encrypted, a decryption unit which decodes an encrypted digital signal to generate a decoded digital signal, and an encryption unit (403) which encrypts a non-encrypted digital signal of the picture/sound information. If the input digital data stream includes a non-encrypted digital signal and the permission information does not include a cryptograph instruction signal (3) which disables encryption, the encryption unit encrypts the digital signal of picture/sound information in the input digital data stream.
