PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-end type image reading device capable of generating a large capacity image file, without having to use a dedicated protocol whose introductory cost is expensive. PSOLUTION: The image reading device stores an image file of a predetermined format in a file storage area by executing the processes of sequentially reading original images and generating digital data of the original images; sequentially transmitting the generated digital data to an external data temporary storage area; generating attribute information for forming the image file of the predetermined format, together with the digital data by being added to the digital data (S404 and S408); sequentially acquiring the digital data from the data temporary storage area so as to store the image file of the predetermined format in the file storage area (S406); and adding the attribute information to the acquired digital data and sequentially transferring the attribute information to the external file storage area (S405, S409 and S411).
