This invention relates to a novel indigenous formulation for treatment and prevention of hair loss/ alopecia/ hair fall and thinning of scalp hair comprising of a mixture of leech extract, egg oil and perfume and also this invention relates to a method for the preparation of an indigenous formulation for prevention of hair loss and/or for growth of new hair on the scalp made of dried leech/ blood extracted leeches/ extract of leech/ leech in mustard oil, egg oil and perfume comprising steps of preparing leech extract by introducing dried leech/extract of leech/blood extracted from leeches to a steel vessel, pouring 1 litre mustard oil in it, the mixture is boiled at 90-140°C for 10 minutes and then at 45-75°C for 4.5 hours, the said mixture is then filtered and centrifuged at 5000 rpm for 30 minutes, supernatant is collected, preparing egg oil by boiling hen eggs in water, egg yolk is separated, yolk is crushed and heated till it is dry, petroleum ether is added to the dried egg yolk, the said mixture is shaken for 5 minutes and kept for 2 hours to provide diffusion of extract in petroleum ether, the said mixture is distilled, the distillate is filtered and centrifuged at 5000 rpm for 30 minutes, the supernatant (egg oil) is collected in glass container, mixing leech extract from step (a) in egg oil from step (b) by thoroughly stirring the mixture, heating the mixture at 50-80°C for 30 minutes, cooling the mixture to room temperature, filtering the mixture, adding perfume to the filtrate and mixed thoroughly to prepare the formulation.
