The invention relates to a location and information device for emergency medical assistance for victims of traffic accidents, especially intended for use with motorcycles, and to a method that includes a physical medium having at least one speed sensor, GPIs, GPS, GPRS, an auxiliary power battery and a data storage card, which automatically sends search and rescue signals by means of SMS text messages, and which is equipped with an imbalance sensor associated with the speed sensor. The sending of search and rescue signals and the contents of the SMS are a function of the values of both the tilt angle and the speed as measured by the speed and balance sensors. The memory card includes data on the medical history and relevant personal information for at least the driver of the vehicle.
