System and method for managing cargo containers. # The present invention relates to a system for the global management of cargo containers and the distribution of said freight containers through a conveying means. The system comprises: a central module configured to decide a route to be followed during shipping and transportation to use; some monitoring devices installed in cargo containers, comprising a plurality of sensors that record certain events that happen to cargo containers and record the location of the freight container at all times, wherein said monitoring devices provide information about events and location of containers in real time to the central module; and a management module in each load center distributes each container assigning a transport or store, depending on the available transport, the storage space available and the information received from the central module.
