PREVENTING ATRIAL FIBRILLATION (AF) WITH THE USE OF STATIN DRUGS

The present invention relates to a novel method to prevent or attenuate atrialfibrillation (AF) promotion resulting from atrial tachycardia. In a studyconducted with 39 dogs, the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor simvastatin was foundto significantly attenuate AF promotion. This finding constitutes the basisfor an interesting new pharmaceutical approach for preventing the consequencesof atrial tachycardia remodeling.
