Embodiments of the present invention relate to eyewear having an electricallyswitchable spectral transmittance lens(es). The eyewear includes a lens driverthat controls thevariable spectral transmittance lens(es). The lens driver is functional toalter a duration of aspectral transmittance state based on a desired frequency and/or duty cycle ofthe spectraltransmittance state. A user may provide an input indicating the desired levelof difficultyprovided by the eyewear, wherein the input may indicate that the frequency,the duty cycle, or acombination of the two should be changed. As a result of changing a perceivedlevel ofdifficulty presented by the eyewear, a wearer of the eyewear may train his orher visual abilitiesto provide a competitive advantage
