A communications system may include a first electronicdevice that may include a display having an array of pixels,each pixel retaining a given state between refreshes and withoutelectrical power supplied thereto, a first near-fieldcommunications (NFC) device, and a first controller coupled tothe first NFC device and the display. The communications systemmay also include a second electronic device to be removablycoupled with the first electronic device and comprising a secondNFC device and a second controller coupled thereto. The secondcontroller may be configured to determine status informationrelated to the first electronic device and communicate thestatus information to the first controller via the first andsecond NFC devices. The first controller may be configured todisplay on the display the status information.
