An information management system (1) is comprised of a cellular phone (2) and a server apparatus (3). The cellular phone (2) is provided with an image pickup unit (29); an operation control unit (23) that controls the operation of the image pickup unit (29) on the basis of an operation control signal received from the server apparatus (3); and an identification information transmission unit (25) that transmits, to the server apparatus (3), identification information for identifying an image object to be picked up (copyright material). The operation control unit (23) invalidates the operation of the image pickup unit (29), when receiving an operation invalidation signal from the server apparatus (3). The server apparatus (3) is provided with an operation control signal transmission unit (32) for transmitting the operation invalidation signal; and a copyright-material information transmission unit (35) for transmitting, to the cellular phone (2), copyright-material information corresponding to the identification information. The cellular phone (2) obtains the copyright-material information from the server apparatus (3). An information management system capable of protecting copyright material appropriately is thereby provided.
