This production method is a method for producing a stolon-forming plant having an improved tuber production ability compared with a wild type of the plant, and involves a step of introducing a Ran gene derived from Citrullus lanatus into a stolon-forming plant. This production method may additionally involve a step of introducing a polynucleotide encoding fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase/sedoheptulose- 1,7-bisphosphatase derived from a blue-green alga into the stolon-forming plant.
