In order to electrically protect a start strength control device (12) from excess currents, a start current limiting system, comprising a first electric connection (4) which can be connected to motor vehicle battery pol (9), a second electric connection (6) which can be connected to a starter (10), and a parallel circuit consisting of a branch having a flow current control device (12) and a branch having an electric resistor (14), said circuit being connected between the first connection (4) and the second connection (6), is provided, such that at the beginning of the hot start of the motor vehicle, a starter current is guided over the resistor (14) and after the beginning of the hot start, the starter current is guided over the current strength limiting device (12) and the resistor (14).
