Disclosed are an energy saving method for a service board, a master control board, a service board, and an access apparatus, which relate to the field of communications and solve the problems that an existing service board has low energy saving efficiency and high maintenance cost of an energy saving solution. In the present invention, the master control board detects the service board periodically, so that chipsets and logic chips on the service board satisfying a condition of entering a sleep mode can all enter an energy saving state. When the service board satisfies the condition of entering the sleep mode, the logic chips can also enter the energy saving state, thereby improving the energy saving efficiency of the service board. In addition, whether the chipsets and the logic chips enter the energy saving state is completely judged and controlled by the master control board automatically without requiring any additional manual maintenance operation, thereby reducing the maintenance cost in the energy saving process. Embodiments of the present invention are mainly used for saving energy of an apparatus in a communication network.
