Rice OsSROlC gene conferring enhanced drought resistance of a plant is provided, wherein the said gene encodes an amino acid sequences as set forth in SEQ ID NO: 2. DNA constructs, transgenic plants or cells comprising the OsSROlC gene and the uses of the OsSROlC gene in improving drough resistance of a plant are also provided. The OsSROlC gene controlling rice drought resistance is cloned by screening a rice T-DNA insertion mutant database and determination of expression level and identification of drought stress phenotype, which shows that the mutant is co-segregated with the drought susceptible phenotype.
