PURPOSE: An optical pickup device and an optical disc device with the same are provided to make the shape of a light spot circular about light of a semiconductor laser light source, thereby reducing jitter and crosstalk.;CONSTITUTION: An objective lens(20) focuses light emitted from a semiconductor laser light source. The objective lens forms a light spot on an optical disc. A polarization plate(59) is arranged on the optical path between the objective lens and the semiconductor laser light source. The polarization plate polarizes light emitted from the semiconductor laser light source into elliptical polarization light. The direction of a long axis of the elliptical polarization light is parallel with the direction of a long axis of laser light by arranging the polarization plate.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2012
