PURPOSE: A sterilizer for an evaporator of a vehicle air-conditioning system and a control method thereof are provided to supply sterilized air to the inside of a vehicle by sterilizing an evaporator of a vehicle air-conditioning system through automatic control of a sterilizing lamp. CONSTITUTION: A sterilizer for an evaporator of a vehicle air-conditioning system comprises a start-up sensor(160), a rechargeable battery(300), a power supply unit(200), a timer(170), and a controller(110). The start-up sensor senses the on/off of a vehicle according to the power provided from a car battery(80). The rechargeable battery is charged with the power provided from the car battery and supplies auxiliary power. According to the sensing result of the start-up sensor, the power supply unit supplies the power of the car battery in case the vehicle is on and the auxiliary power of the rechargeable battery in case the vehicle is off. The timer measures the on/off time of a sterilizing lamp(130). When the auxiliary power of the rechargeable battery is provided through the power supply unit, the controller repeats operating and halting the sterilizing lamp according to a predetermined time cycle.
