The invention relates to a method for producing high-performance chopped fiber having fibrils, comprising the steps a) preparing an organic high-performance filament yarn having a tensile strength of at least 10 g/dtex and a tensile elastic modulus of at least 150 g/dtex, b) fibrillation of the high-performance filament yarn in a dry yarn state, resulting in a high-performance filament yarn having fibrils, and c) cutting the high-performance filament yarn having fibrils resulting from step b) into high-performance chopped fibers having substantially the same length. The invention further relates to high-performance chopped fibers having substantially the same length, an article comprising said fibers and one or more fillers, and a method for producing such an article.
