The device (10) has a spring element (44) i.e. film hinge, biasing the locking device compared with a connector. A detent lever (12) and an operation lever (18) are jointly pivoted for storing a bearing unit (22). The bearing unit is fastened with a base (26) at a connector housing of the connector. A locking projection (14) of the detent lever is provided for locking in a rear grip position on a rear handle edge of a base housing. The base of the bearing unit is designed to attach to an edge of the connector housing or reach a housing edge to form an angle-shaped base. An independent claim is also included for a connector assembly having a rear edge grip.
