The apparatus (10) has a workpiece holder (14) connected with a stand (11) for retaining a workpiece. The holder is pivoted in a non-locked state of the apparatus relative the stand around a pivot axis. A locking device (17) locks the pivoting holder in a deviate position that is tilted relative to the stand. The locking device includes a notched pin and an engagement portion (18) that is moved relative to the pin during tilting the holder. The pin is engaged in recesses (19) of the engagement portion in a locking condition of the apparatus. The holder is locked in the deviate position.
