The method involves releasing heat from chemicals such as oxides e.g. calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen oxide. The released heat in devices e.g. internal combustion engine or gas turbine, is converted into mechanical energy or directly converted into electric current in fuel cells or by generators. A vehicle is refueled with hydrocarbons, and carbonates and hydrates are replaced by new carbonates and hydrates. The replaced carbonates and hydrates are centrally regenerated into original chemicals and optionally reused. An independent claim is also included for a device for operating a zero emission vehicle.
