The following procedure is proposed for this: The exhaust gas is gradually, in at least three washing stages with washing columns K1, K2, K3 connected in series with a packed bed FS with a surface area of 180 to 980 m2 / m3, a space load of 30 to 180 m3 / m3h each Washing column in countercurrent brought into contact with fresh water as a washing solution with a temperature of 5 to 30 ° C, with the addition of an oxidizing agent.
