The fuel injection system has a booster pump (1), whose suction side is connected to a tank (4) and the pressure side is connected to an inner space (6) of a high-pressure pump (7). A diversion line (36) of a high pressure accumulator (17) is blocked for promoting the booster pump in a return line (13), where the diversion line is controlled by a slide valve (28).
