A fiber optic current detection system uses at least one light source that works to produce light at one or more target wavelengths. A first fiber optic-based sensor that is transparent to a desired wavelength works to detect a magnetic field that is emitted by a predetermined electrical conductor or a current flowing through the electrical conductor. A temperature sensor, which may be another fiber optic sensor, operates to sense an operating temperature associated with the first fiber optic sensor in response to the light generated by the light source. A signal processing device adjusts the measured current in order to compensate for essentially temperature-induced errors in connection with the measured current in response to the measured operating temperature of the glass fiber sensor.
