Removing vinyl chloride from water, comprises (i) adding oxygen or an agent exhibiting oxidizing activity, into water to be purified, and (ii) passing the water through a biofilm that contains vinyl chloride degrading microorganisms. An independent claim is also included for a device for removing vinyl chloride from water, comprising (a) an addition device for adding oxygen or the agent exhibiting oxidizing activity, into the water to be purified, and (b) a filtering device comprising the biofilm containing vinyl chloride degrading microorganisms, through which the water is passed.
