The method involves placing a plate or horn-rimmed glass (6) on a contact surface, where the plate is provided with passage openings (8) for a finishing tool. Clamping screws are tightened with defined prestressing force that is greater than biasing force of cylinder head bolts during tightening cylinder head. Surface pressure between the plate or glass and a contact surface is increased compared to another surface pressure that is produced during tightening the cylinder head in order to imitate heat distortion of cylinder tubes (2) caused by heating a combustion engine during operation.
