The starter device has a starter motor, an output shaft, a driven wheel (4) connected with the output shaft, a switching device for switching the power supply for the starter motor and a starting wheel (7) arranged on a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine. The starter device has a mechanism (8), by which the driven wheel is lead to the starting wheel from a direction radial in relation to the starting wheel up to the torque transmitting connection.
