The unit (10) has a resistor arrangement (14) provided between first- and second external connections (11, 12). A third external connection (13) is connected with the first or second external connections over a temperature-dependant switching device (18). The switching device is connected with a center tap (17) of the resistor arrangement, and comprises upper- and lower current-carrying bimetal springs forming the resistor arrangement. A switching contact i.e. contact bar, is formed at a free end of the switching device, where another end of the switching device is fixed to a carrier block.
