The method involves moving a clutch i.e. friction clutch, from an open state to a closed state, and vice-versa. A clutch position and torque are determined during movement of the clutch to form determined torque (100) and determined clutch position. The determined torque and the determined position of the clutch are filtered to form filtered torque (110) and position. Clutch parameters i.e. clutch hysteresis parameters, are determined from the determined position and the determined torque of the clutch. Clutch velocity is varied during movement of the clutch based on measurement conditions.
