The device has a feeding unit and identification- and evaluation unit, where the feeding unit conveys the flexible structure (1). The feeding unit is assigned to a sample carrier (3a) that serves the positioning of the flexible structure in the measuring position. A continuously adjustable and pivotally or rotatably mounted plate (2) is arranged over the sample carrier and the flexible structure for improvisation of the groove width. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining the restoring forces of the structures for determining the groove width.
