A process for producing a semiconductor crystalline material in the form of nanosheets represented by the formula MXM being a transition metal and X a chalcogen, the process comprising the following steps: the preparation of a first non or weakly coordinating organic solution constituting a synthetic solvent; preparing a second organic solution containing M and X precursors and containing an acetate sa and progressively introducing for a predetermined time a predetermined amount of the second solution in a predetermined amount of the first solution at a predetermined temperature T for the formation of the nanocrystals. The use of the material obtained is also presented.
