PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing water-soluble selenium from drainage without supplying an expensive energy source substance such as a yeast extract.;SOLUTION: Provided is the method for treating the drainage, comprising a process for supplying a lower alcohol to a selenic acid-reducing microorganism of a genus Pseudomonas bacterium (FERM P-20840) under an anaerobic environment and making contact with a water-soluble selenium-containing drainage to produce selenious acid from selenic acid contained in the water-soluble selenium-containing drainage, and a process for supplying a lower alcohol and sulfuric acid under an anaerobic environment to a sulfuric acid-reducing microorganism (FERM P-21577) which belongs to genus Desulfovibrio and has an ability for reducing the sulfuric acid and the selenious acid with a lower alcohol as an energy source under an anaerobic environment, bringing the produced hydrogen sulfide into contact with a water-soluble selenium-containing drainage to convert selenious acid contained in the water-soluble selenium-containing drainage and the selenious acid produced with the selenic acid-reducing microorganism into water-insoluble selenium.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
