P To provide a method for producing an alcohol in good productivity by utilizing hydration reaction of an olefin by using an ion-exchange resin as a catalyst. PSOLUTION: The method for producing an alcohol by the hydration reaction of an olefin by using a fixed bed-type reactor using the ion-exchange resin as a catalyst includes bringing a reaction solvent and/or the alcohol of the same kind as the product of the hydration reaction into contact with the ion-exchange resin in a sufficient contact state with pure water as the pretreatment of the hydration reaction and starting the hydration reaction by feeding the olefin.
