PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a diversity of variation of an image displayed by an optical element including a solidified liquid crystal material in accordance with its observation condition.;SOLUTION: The optical element 10 is characterized in that it is equipped with: a light transmitting recession forming layer 13 of which one principal surface includes one or more recession forming regions 131-133 respectively provided with a plurality of grooves uniformly aligned in the longitudinal direction and neighboring to one another in the direction intersecting the longitudinal direction; a liquid crystal layer 15 supported with the principal surface and composed of the solidified liquid crystal material; and a reflection layer 12 opposite to the other principal surface of the recession forming layer 13 and including a scattering section 121 having a light scattering property and a non-scattering section 122 having no light scattering property.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
