PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver capable of automatically determining a demodulation method according to a modulation mode and the transmission state, and supporting extensive modulation modes, without increase in the circuit scale.;SOLUTION: The receiver includes a transmission path estimating version maximum-likelihood sequence estimation demodulator 5, a transmission path information holding version maximum-likelihood sequence estimation demodulator 6, and a demodulation method selector 7. The demodulator 5 estimates transmission path information, and performs maximum-likelihood sequence estimation by Viterbi algorithm based on transmission parameters, received signals, and the transmission path information, and computes reliability information. The demodulator 6 holds transmission path information determined based on a sequence candidate of Viterbi algorithm beforehand, and performs maximum-likelihood sequence estimation based on the transmission parameters, the received signals, and the transmission path information currently held, and computes reliability information.
