The invention relates to a protection of objects to be protected, e.g. to protection of valuable documents against forgery and duplication using a protection element which comprises a transparent substrate 1, on the working surface of which is formed at least one opaque metal element 3 of holographic image and at least one portion having a predetermined optical transmission within a 10 to about 90% range and formed by metal microraster elements 2 of 5-500 mkm size of the preset form and frequency, carrying a pre-programmed information, wherein said at least one element and at least one portion are in spatial-specified accordance to each other, forming a combined image of the preset structure, form and content; an optically variable transparent layer 4 changing its color in a reflected and passing light depending on light angle, the layer 4 is applied on the whole working surface of said substrate over at least one element and at least one portion; a transparent protection layer 5 applied over the optically variable transparent layer 4. A method is also described of making said protection layer and a method of verification thereof.
