membrane bioreactor three stages, methanogenic, and aerobic filtration, and process for the purification of urban or industrial wastewater. The reactor consists of three chambers, one methanogenic anaerobic chamber (1), an aerobic (2) chamber and a filtration chamber (3). In anaerobic (1) chamber removing the organic matter present in the wastewater is promoted, using anaerobic biomass, generating a biogas high in methane. In aerobic (2) a support chamber plastic particles is maintained, with a biofilm of aerobic microorganisms to remove organic matter remaining in the water. The reactor includes a filter chamber (3) with ultrafiltration or microfiltration modules submerged membrane with a purified water, free of suspended solids and microorganisms is obtained. The reactor is characterized by low generation of sludge and power consumption.
