A method for extracting phenol from waste water, comprising: a) contacting a wastewater stream containing phenol with a hydrocarbon solvent cool, said hydrocarbon solvent a hydrocarbon portion of a bottoms stream of refined columnade acetone, to produce a stream of waste water and desfenolada spent disolventehidrocarbonado; b) conveying at least some of the spent hydrocarbon solvent to a recovery system alfametilestirenocorriente below said refining column recycle acetone without any spent to step a) hydrocarbon deldisolvente contact portion.
