A method for operating a surgical system computer-assisted stereotactic surgery comprising: of imaging a region of interest (640) and a proximal medical device (610, 1654) related to a reference body (604) to region of interest of a portion of an anatomy of a subject to two or more angles for obtaining a plurality of two-dimensional images (910, 920); processing the plurality of two-dimensional images to produce three-dimensional information relating to the region of interest 10; associate, based on the three-dimensional information, a virtual medical device (1666) with the region of interest in a predetermined relation to the reference body (604); and show the association as an image showing the virtual medical device (610) superimposed on the region of interest (640), wherein the method does not comprise the steps of placing the medical device (610, 1654) and the process not comprising the step of repositioning the medical device while constituting a treatment of the human or animal by surgery.
