Free cyanide process to isolate gold precious metal of a particulate material containing particles dedicho precious metal in elemental form, comprising the following steps: (i) preparing an aqueous mixture containing said particulate material and biomass comprising eubacteriasque have a S-layer or archaea having an S-layer; (Ii) incubating said aqueous mixture of step (i) to allow binding of said precious metal to said biomass; (iii) separating the biomass having bound metal from the aqueous mixture of step (ii); and (iv) isolating the metal from said separated in step (iii) biomass; wherein it said biomass comprises or consists of one or more organisms selected from Bacillus sphaericus such as Bacillussphaericus CCM2177; Lactobacillus acidophilus as Lactobabillus; Halobacterium salinarum Halobacteria as; Xanthomonas campestris as Xanthomonas; Shewanella putrefaciens as yShewanella.
