WAKE TURBULENCE ANALYZER FOR REAL-TIME VISUALIZATION, DETECTION, AND AVOIDANCE

A computer method for determining potential wake turbulence by a first aircraft 10 from wake 12a, 12b generated by a second aircraft 14a, 14b. The computer method includes receiving a signal 16a, 16b generated by the second aircraft 14a, 14b at the first aircraft 10 and transforming the signal 16a, 16b to a first wake turbulence boundary 62, 90, 102, 112 that represents the wake 12a, 12b generated by the second aircraft 14a, 14b. An intersection volume 64, 68, which is representative of a zone of dangerous turbulence interactions, is selected for the first aircraft 10. Based on a determination of intersection between the first wake turbulence boundary 62, 90, 102, 112 and the intersection volume 64, 68, issuing a warning flag if an intersection exists or continue generating the first wake turbulence boundary 62, 90, 102, 112 and determining whether interactions exist.
