The present invention relates to a VPN FRR method and device for an MPLS L3VPN system. The method includes: for a VPN FRR overlapped with a tunnel FRR, setting all the egress information about the routing forwarding information about the next hops of the main path and standby path of the VPN FRR as internal trunk ID and making the trunk ID consistent with the ID of the tunnel protection group of a corresponding path; and, when the tunnel protection groups of the main/standby path of the VPN FRR switch, updating the trunk ID, DMAC information and layer 3 interface information in the forwarding information about the next hop of the corresponding path. The device includes a setting module and a switching module. The present invention can reduce the switching time of the VPN FRR, reduce system complexity and at the same time can save a large amount of hardware resources.
