Disclosed is a method for reporting fault generation and disappearance, comprising: A. recording a state of a link to be on, and at the same time, configuring a watchdog to directly report an alarm of fault generation if an operation administration and management (OAM) message is not received within a period T; B. determining whether the watchdog detects fault generation of the link; C. when the watchdog detects fault generation of the link, changing a current state of the link to be off, and at the same time, reconfiguring the watchdog, configuring a fault disappearance detection period of the watchdog to be n*T, and if the number of received packets of the link in a detection period is larger than a preset threshold, reporting an alarm of fault disappearance, n being an integer larger than 1; and D. determining whether the watchdog reports the alarm of fault disappearance, and returning to step A when the watchdog reports the alarm of fault disappearance. Further provided is a device for reporting fault generation and disappearance. In this technical solution, the operation process is simple and the development and maintenance are very convenient.
