The method involves determining amplitudes, phase angles of error portions, and frequencies of occurrence of the error portions. A photo conductor roller and a transfer roller of electrographic color printing units (DW) producing the error portions are operated based on the frequencies. Correction values associated to error values are determined based on the position of the rollers. The correction values are supplied to a device controller (GS), which control application of color separations, so that the color separations are produced on a recording medium (1) in a reference position.
